About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Deputy Manager to join a children’s residential home based in Manchester, providing high-quality care and support to young people with complex needs. You will assist the Registered Manager in the daily operations of the home, ensuring compliance with OFSTED regulations and fostering a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for the children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Registered Manager in the overall management and leadership of the home.
  • Ensure high standards of care in line with Children’s Homes Regulations and OFSTED requirements.
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of Residential Support Workers, promoting professional development.
  • Maintain a child-centred approach, ensuring individual care plans are followed and regularly reviewed.
  • Assist with safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Promote a positive and supportive environment that encourages the children’s emotional, social, and educational development.
  • Manage staff rotas, performance, and training requirements.
  • Handle incident reporting, record-keeping, and liaising with external agencies, social workers, and families.
  • Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent qualification).
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a children’s residential home.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership or Deputy Manager role within a similar setting.
  • Strong knowledge of OFSTED regulations, safeguarding, and children’s home legislation.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviours and implementing positive behaviour strategies.
  • Leadership, team management, and staff development experience.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Experience working with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), autism, or learning disabilities.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and therapeutic approaches.
